Short answer: yes — a properly prepared, professionally applied ceramic coating is one of the best defences against the coastal conditions we deal with in Noosa and across the Sunshine Coast. But it isn’t a force field, and how well it performs depends on the prep before it goes on and the care it gets afterwards. Here’s what coastal conditions do to your paint, and what a coating can and can’t do about it.
What Noosa’s Coastal Conditions Do to Your Paint
- Salt air and sea spray – salt settles on your paint and, combined with moisture, speeds up oxidation and corrosion, especially around panel edges, badges and trim.
- Strong Queensland UV – fades and dulls paint over time and eventually breaks down the clear coat.
- Beach sand and dust – fine grit from beach car parks and dirt roads causes swirls and light scratches when it’s wiped or washed carelessly.
- Heat, humidity, tree sap and bird droppings – these bake on in the sun and can etch into the clear coat if they’re left sitting.
How Ceramic Coating Helps
A ceramic coating bonds to your clear coat and forms a hard, slick, hydrophobic layer. In coastal conditions that means:
- Salt and grime have less to grip onto, and rinse off more easily
- A UV-resistant layer helps slow fading and oxidation
- Bird droppings and sap are less likely to etch before you can wash them off
- Washing is quicker and easier, so you’re less likely to put swirls in the paint
What Ceramic Coating Won’t Do
- It won’t stop stone chips or deep scratches.
- It doesn’t mean you never wash the car – salt still needs rinsing off regularly; the coating just makes it much easier.
- It can’t fix existing swirls or oxidation. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so the paint needs correcting first.
Prep Is What Makes It Last
Before any coating goes on, we do a full decontamination wash, iron fallout removal, clay bar treatment and a primer polish – plus paint correction if the paint needs it. Learn more about 1-Step Paint Correction and 2-Step Paint Correction.
